Editors Pick of the Month

You can never go wrong with wood - not only does it look truly stunning and add plenty of character to any home, it is hardwearing enough to withstand family life, dinner parties and special occasions for years to come.

Personally, I love a contemporary twist on wood to give your room an unexpected design twist which also bridges the gap between modern and rustic design. In particular, unique dining tables are great because they are an easy way to bring to life a room which can sometimes be purely functional.

Hoxton Industrial Cross Leg Oak Dining Table

That's why this month, my pick is the Hoxton Industrial Cross Leg Oak Dining Table. What I love about this oak dining table is the simple, clean style of the light wooden top which will work wonderfully in any home paired with the chunky metal legs for a completely unique take on wood. The wood and metal dining table is a true treasure that will certainly attract all the attention and compliments.

To create the look in your home, pair your industrial dining table with upholstered dining chairs. These fabric dining chairs are available in a colour of your choice with the piping around the edges and angled legs add a subtle, luxurious retro feel yet will create a comfortable dining area.

Next comes details. Adding a rug to your dining room is great for a number of reasons. First and foremost, if you have an open plan living area or kitchen area, a rug helps to section out your room whilst still holding onto the social, open space. A black and white rug is great, as it will work with the contemporary style of the metal table legs and will allow you to easily change other smaller decor items and not needing to worry about matching.

Calla Pewter Candle Holder pair

As for on the table itself, keep it simple. Simple metal candle holders add some interest to your table without looking cluttered - or taking up too much space when you are feeding lots of people. A tall, curved candle holder adds elegant style to any space and the height is great for adding a little drama.

Keep on the metal and wood theme by matching your serving items. The Bramble collection by Brighton based designer, Garth Williams is perfect for this, and is truly stunning too. A decorative cheeseboard is a great option if you want to finish your dinner parties off in style!

Alternatively, pair the dining table with black dining chairs to really make a statement. Black is perfect for family life as it will disguise marks a little bit easier than lighter colours and they look super stylish too!

Then, try and create some coordination with your decor. These rough cast aluminium lanterns are great for any dining room with their contemporary take on a classic decor piece. Place a large lantern and a smaller one next to each other for a simple yet effective centrepiece. Finish the room off with some artwork and really make a statement!

Victoria Distressed White Glass Display Cabinet

If you have a bit more space, why not add some extra storage space. This glass display cabinet is perfect if you have a fantastic collection of wine glasses or nicer dinnerware you don't use everyday, and is also perfect for holding treasures from your travels and family photos. What is great about this is the white wood will be a wonderful contrast against lots of black accents. You could also go for a small white sideboard and display your new artwork above.
