Valentine's Day is less than two weeks away. Going out for dinner is always an easy option, but staying in is often far more relaxing than venturing out to a busy restaurant, and it's easy to make your evening far more personal and meaningful.
As for decorating your dining room, make a few easy changes to create the perfect atmosphere. If you have a touch of urban chic with gorgeous industrial style lighting in your living or dining room, make sure you keep the light low for a romantic evening. On an industrial dining table, add flowers and lots of candles to set the scene.
Finish your evening with one of our fantastic gift ideas for something a little different from the typical flowers, jewellery or chocolates.
A gorgeous glass of wine is always a great accompaniment to your dinner, but why not try something a little different with one of these Valentine's Day themed cocktails:
The Flirtini is a fabulous sweet and fruity cocktail, best served in a martini glass with a garnish of mint or a glacé cherry.
- cointreau or triple sec
- pineapple juice
- champagne or prosecco
- or orange juice, lime juice and lemonade
Muddle a couple of pineapple chunks with 1 part Cointreau, or Triple Sec if you prefer, in the bottom of a mixing glass. Then add 1 part vodka and 2 parts pineapple juice. Strain and pour into a chilled glass or over ice and top up with champagne or prosecco.
For a non-alcoholic version, substitute the alcohol for a blend of orange juice, lime juice and lemonade for a fresh and fruity drink.
If you are looking for something a little creamier, French Kiss is perfect.
- vodka or Irish cream whiskey
- dark creme de cacao
- chocolate kiss
Pour equal parts Chambourd, vodka, dark creme de cacao and cream into a cocktail shaker and shake before topping with a chocolate kiss. Alternatively, if you don't like vodka, switch for something like an Irish Cream whiskey and maybe add a little less cream.
X's and O's
X's and O's is a great gin based drink which is light and refreshing.
- sage leaves
- pear syrup
- lime juice
Place the 2 sage leaves, a dash of pear syrup, a couple of slices of pear and a handful of blueberries into a cocktail shaker and muddle to combine. Add a dash of lime juice, gin and ice and then shake before pouring into a tall glass. Garnish with a mixture of berries and enjoy.
