How to dress up your dining table for a Christmas Dinner

Christmas is officially coming! For most of us, that means evenings with friends and dinners with family. Dressing the table for a Christmas feast is one of my favourite things to do, but it really doesn't need to be stressful. Here are a few tips and ideas to create the most festive dinner table around.

Christmas Dining Table

When it comes to finding dining table decorations, one of the best things to keep in mind is colour scheme. Try and stick to one or two colours to create a sophisticated yet festive finish. With a dark wooden table or dark table cloth, silver looks fantastic as it creates a gorgeous contrast. Alternatively, if you like the more traditional Christmas colours of red and green, or have a lighter wooden table, gold is a great choice. Add luxury Christmas crackers and matching sparkling table stars for an understated look. Finish with two or three large candles down the centre and place wine in decanters for an elegant finish.

As its Christmas, why not have some fun and add some decorations that add to the festivities. Interesting centrepieces are a great way to add some excitement to your dining table without taking up too much space. A miniature potted Christmas tree with some warm fairy lights and a Christmas angel placed on top would look gorgeous. You could even add a touch of snow!

If you have a few spare minutes, or children to keep entertained, you could even add a special touch with a couple of DIY decorations. As a simple centrepiece, fill a wide glass vase with baubles and fairy lights. It takes five minutes and will look stunning as it catches the light. You could also make small bags of gingerbread with each guests name tied around on ribbon, or napkin tree place cards; fold your napkin into a triangle and write each person's name on a small piece of card to create the trunk.
