Through a passion for home interiors and for sustainable living, Modish Living was formed by husband and wife team, Hellen and Chris Barlow, three years ago. Hellen, who originates from Norway grew up working with wood from a young age, and simply loves working with designs that involve reusing old reclaimed wood. As a team, they work to source sustainable designs from independent craftsmen, and often Nordic designs will be featured amongst their ranges.
Working with independent craftsmen in the UK has allowed the team to offer a special offering of bespoke made to order furniture. The local craftsmen use either sustainably sourced Oak or old reclaimed wood. The true beauty of reclaimed wood is it’s previous industrial life, where the wood is rescued, dried, sanded and restored to reveal a material of age and character never seen in new wood. Some will have served as roof joists for over 150 years in Victorian buildings, and get rescued prior to demolition.
Now a team of eight, the increased demand for stylish rustic and sustainable furniture has meant Modish Living has gone from strength to strength. With new ranges constantly being added from craftsmen both overseas and in the UK, the aim is to offer consumers a large selection of truly beautiful, unique and affordable designs for the home, all of which are sustainably sourced.
