We chatted with Tom Puukko, co-founder of Feathr to find out more about the latest wallpaper trends.
Why do you think wallpaper has been a growing interior trend?
One reason designer wallpaper has been such a big hit in recent years is the sheer range of different styles you can find. Paint of course is still a great choice, but only with wallpaper can you create a subtle distressed paint effect, add a touch of style with an ombre wallpaper or go full on maximalist with a luxury gold chinoiserie wallpaper.
What are five of the most popular wallpaper styles for 2021?
Interior design trends play a big part in wallpaper trends, but the ones that are popular year after year are those that are adaptable to lots of different interior styles. Floral, geometric and abstract designs have been given a contemporary nod, whilst retro prints, such as chinoiserie and tropical have made a comeback in a more modern guise.
5 key wallpaper trends in 2021

1. Chinoiserie
Chinoiserie is the imitation of Chinese motifs and as a style has been a huge trend in recent years. It adds wonderful texture to a room and can come in a wide selection of different styles depending on how much of an impact you want. Choose from a subtle wallpaper with patterns in a soft hue or an impressive metallic wallpaper with cherry blossoms, sakura branches and birds in a bright colour.

2. Abstract
Abstract wallpaper is a favourite in homes world over. It offers a multitude of styling options from soft washes of colour as a simple way to recreate paint effects to creating an aged shabby chic look with an artfully distressed wallpaper. Again, colour can be used to either dial up or dial down the impact, but an abstract wall is guaranteed to add warmth and interest to a room.

3. Tropical
If you want to add an instant shot of glam to a room, tropical wallpaper is a fantastic way to go. From bold flamingos or a colourful jungle to a more relaxing composition of hints of bamboo in a foggy rainforest, a tropical design wallpaper or wall mural is fun, on-trend and sparks the imagination.

4. Floral
Cottagecore has been one of biggest recent interior trends and this homely style means floral wallpaper is once again back in fashion. Playful, nostalgic and busy, the floral wallpaper trend includes clashing looks synonymous with the cottagecore style or for a more refined and subtle feel go for oversized blooms and trailing branches.
Top tip: "to create the ultimate rustic chic interior, combine a vintage inspired wallpaper with reclaimed wood furniture and add in mismatched soft furnishings to complete the look. Oh La La wallpaper melds together muted earth tones that perfectly complement the warm wood hues of a rustic dining table or reclaimed wood sideboard" Tom, co-founder, Feathr

5. Geometric
The sharp forms and patterns of geometric wallpaper make it a classic style, whether you’re looking to create a modernist home, a living room with a mid-century look or even add a contemporary edge to a period home. The current trends in geometric wallpaper tend towards luxury with classic patterns of dark colours and glimpses of metallic. It’s a style of wallpaper that has something for everyone and can make a real difference to a room whether it’s used on a feature wall or all over.
